Did you ever play the original Utawarerumono (DAMN! That’s a mouthful!)? The original, visual-novel tactical RPG for the PC? Nope, me neither. While the game was later ported to basically every PlayStation platform from the PS2 all the way up to the PS4 (excluding PS3), it has never been localised outside of Japan. There is a fan translation patch available, of course, so if you want, you can jump right in, right now! There’s also a plethora of other stuff that might be of interest – manga, anime and all that.
There’s a good chance that you’re more familiar with the (really cool) sequels, for the PS3, PS4 and my beloved Vita – ‘Mask of Deception’ and/or ‘Mask of Truth’, which have been localised.
Well, if you’re feeling sad and deprived of that original game – cry not! NISA is localising the ‘new’ remake (2018) for the first time! Utawarararareromonomno: Prelude to the Fallen! It’s being released for the PS4 AND Vita, with PS4 receiving a physical release. Us sad, filthy Vita players obviously only get a digital released. We are no longer loved. It will also be getting a PC release, but at a later time, so I’m sure if you’re interested there’s likely at least one way to play!
This is a ‘remake’ and not a simple remaster, so expect some (if not many) changes and improvements. If you’ve never tried out any of the games, this may be the perfect time to give them a go. The Strategy-RPG gameplay is really great, in my opinion!
But wait, doesn’t the title of this article suggest that there’s a new gameplay trailer? Why yes, dear reader. As is always the case, we are behind the times here at the Lonely Outlet, and everything above is… ‘old news’. So, you want that gameplay trailer do ya? Well, okay. Don’t say I never did nothin’ for ya! [Double negative? – Julia]
Utatatawarerererururmonononono: Prelude to the Fallen is out on May 36 in NA and May 29 in Europe.
