Everything Revealed at the PS5 ‘Future of Gaming’ Event (with Comments)

PS5 - Future of Gaming Event

So, like so many others around the world, there’s a good chance that you tuned in to the PS5 ‘Future of Gaming’ event (or at least checked out what games were revealed). But if by some chance, you missed the stream, avoided all articles, or just want to read our short, stupid opinions on the titles, perhaps this is the article for you!
First things first though – if you are still interested in checking out the full press conference, you can watch the video here, or down below:

Without any further ado, let’s look at the reveals!

Grand Theft Auto V Coming to PS5

Also, everyone who owns the game on PS4 will get $1M in GTA Cash, every month until the new port launches next year.

Cool… I guess? I don’t really care, does anyone?

Julia

Spider-Man: Miles Morales – New Standalone Title From Insomniac

The new game looks… a lot like the old game. It’s more of the same. But now with 224.3% more Miles Morales!

Liz

Gran Turismo 7: The Real Driving Simulator – Now More REAL!

“More Real” – I made that slogan up. Hire me Sony! I doubt there’s much to say with this one. If you like Gran Turismo, you’ll probably like this one.

Wil

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Oh YEAH! A new Ratchet and Clank is always a good time! Even if the previous PS4 reboot/remake/rebebebe didn’t live up to previous entries, I’m definitely looking forward to this one.

Adrian

Square Enix Presents Project Athia from Luminous Productions

Looks pretty awesome! Reminds me a lot of Agni’s Philosophy.

Adrian

Stray (Formerly ‘HK_Project’) from BlueTwelve

Now this is more my sort of thing! I love the look of this one. Co-created by the Unreal 4 LEGEND Koola!

Lorenzo

Creepy SciFi Shooter ‘Returnal’

Looks like a cross between ‘Nex Machina’ and ‘Edge of Tomorrow’. Emily Blunt – Yeah!

Julia

LittleBigPlanet’s Sackboy, Starring in ‘Sackboy A Big Adventure’

(also developed by Sackboy*. Did I mention that Sackboy was in it?)

I’ve always liked the LBP series and the Sackboy ‘character’. Looks fun! I dig the more isometric view. Doesn’t really showcase the PS5’s power… then again, did any of these games?

Lorenzo

* This is a lie.

‘Destruction All Stars’ is like Rocket League Meets Twisted Metal

This trailer actually got me really pumped. I’m inextricably excited for this. I don’t even know why!

Adrian

Oh Yeah! Kena: Bridge of Spirits Looks Great!

My (personally) most anticipated game of the bunch. Kubo + Zelda + Horizon + Beyond Good & Evil!

Wil

Goodbye Volcano High – I Will Give it a Shot!

So, this one’s been getting a lot of hate, due to both its ‘furry’ aesthetic, and subject matter. I think it could be alright, but naturally, will reserve my judgement until more is revealed (and/or I can play it).

Liz

Oddworld Soulstorm

I love Oddworld – it’s just about my favourite game series – so I was very pleased to see this on show.

Lorenzo

GhostWire: Tokyo Gameplay Reveal

It looks somewhat… different to what I was expecting. Not necessarily bad, but I think I was hoping for something a tad less action based.

-Julia

JETT: The Far Shore – ‘Sounds’ Nice!

I was honestly more enthralled by the music than anything else. As with most of the games on show – it could be good, but too little was shown to get particularly hyped.

Dave

Godfall – More Like God Awful!

Ha ha!

Seriously. This looks kind of bad, with a particularly poor choice of music and rather generic gameplay. It might be fine, but whoever put this trailer together is not doing the game any favours.

-Dave

Solar Ash – New 3D Game From the Makers of Hyper Light Drifter

I like it! Give me more to watch, though. This was like, nothing.

-Wil

YO! Hitman III

Not a great trailer. They may as well have just shown the logo.

Then again, maybe they already showed the ‘real’ trailer… the Hitman hides in plain sight – right? Right?!

-Adrian

Astro’s Playroom Takes Me Back to Simpler Times!

A haptic-feedback-fuelled adventure (that will come preloaded on all PS5s). It’s basically a small tech-demo collection.

I like this unashamedly! I’ve never played Astro Bot, but this trailer definitely makes me feel like a kid again.

Liz

Little Devil Inside Who Would Have Thought That This Kickstarter-Funded Game Would Be Presented in a PS5 Reveal Trailer?

I like the look of it though. I’ll definitely keep my eye on it.

Dave

NBA 2K21 is Very Sweaty…

I’m not much of a Basketball fan – when I refer to ‘B-Ball’, I of course mean Baseball! But I imagine if you’re a fan of the 2K series, it might appeal to you.

Lorenzo

Bugsnax – Yeah, No.

It actually doesn’t look terrible, and it’s from the creator of Octodad, but… it honestly scares me.

-Lorenzo

Demon’s Soul’s

The new remake of… Demon’s Souls. FANTASTIC!

-Dave

Deathloop – More Cartoony, Action-Heavy Dishonored

I thought it was pretty good. Looks like a fun time. I’m always up for a fun time! 😉

-Julia

Resident Evil Village – The Vill is VIII, Get it?

Shut up and take my money!

-Julia

Pragmata – The Most Kojima-like Game Not Made by Kojima

I think it’s so great that we’re seeing such a large range of interesting and ‘different’ sorts of titles… even though none really showcase the power or ability of the PS5 console.

I’m excited for this one!

-Adrian

Horizon Forbidden West Announced

I’m a big fan of Horizon Zero Dawn, so naturally I’m excited for this one. Admittedly, it doesn’t show much yet, but I’m just happy that it was officially announced.

-Liz

The Final PS5 Hardware Design is Here… and it’s DAMN UGLY!

Perhaps you like the design – and that’s cool, don’t listen to us. As we always say, form your own opinions! Personally though, I really don’t like the look of the new console. It looks like a router with two pieces of paper around it. Or a cooler

It comes in two models – one with a disc drive and another purely ‘digital’ model. Of course, being the physical media pariahs that we are, we will go for the disc-version. But that looks even worse. Geez.

Wil

Overall what do we think about it? We’re excited for many of the titles announced, and as Adrian said, it’s wonderful to see such a great variety on offer. This certainly seems like a good time for independent developers! With that being said, every game shown off looked like it could have been made for the PS4. Admittedly, so little was shown of most titles that we can’t really make any a particularly good judgement. But, at the same time, this was, presumably an event to get people excited for the shiny, new, upcoming PS5 console, with better graphics, or at least more technologically advanced games. What can I do with the PS5 that I couldn’t already do with my PS4? This event really didn’t tell us.

The fact that more than half of the games on display are also coming to PC does not help matters (and a number of them are still being released on PS4). More will naturally be revealed in the coming months, but the whole event seems to be something of a wasted opportunity. I will say that it always takes a bit of time for developers to get used to new hardware and systems, so we rarely get the ‘best’ upon launch. In all honesty, here at the Lonely Outlet, we have never been ones to really care all that much about graphics, much preferring good story and/or gameplay, so I can hardly say that we’re disappointed by the ‘Future of Gaming’ Event. Perhaps, just a tiny bit underwhelmed…

Until next time, stay safe! We hope you have a great day, wherever you are!

Love from your friends at the Lonely Outlet.
