Durénnmørk Weather Report

It’s dark outside. Dark? Dark. The snow never relenting. When will our misery end?

Why not sit by the fire and take a few moments to relax. Welcome to today’s edition of the Durénnmørk Weather Report.

Hello there dear reader. Just a quick report today – I have to go out and shovel the driveway. It’s a task that I take no pleasure in doing and continuously put off. The fact that you can barely see what (or who) you’re shoveling out there doesn’t help. I always have an, as yet unfounded, fear that someone will sneak up behind me and strike, mid-scoop. But enough about the mundanities of Durénnmørk life. Onto some (perhaps, only slightly more) interesting stuff…

We do not have too much in the way of restaurants, or eateries here. There are a few, but naturally the town can’t accommodate as many places as you might find in a big city. For me, this is generally okay as my wife and I both cook (though salt-fish seems to be one of the primary ingredients in most dishes) and if we do want a bit more variety, we can simply venture South, outside Durénnmørk.

As far as the restaurants that we do have in-town go, a favourite among locals is the Minnesota Diner. A rather informal and honestly unattractive place, with little in the way of charm or personality. I really have no idea why people like it so. I don’t even know how it got its name, as it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with ‘Minnesota’, nor is the cuisine particularly American. It has, however become a Durénnmørk institution over the years and you can almost be shunned if you aren’t seen eating there at least once a week. As COVID-19 lockdowns have been easing, Minnesota just reopened on Monday and so, I decided to stop by. I really wish I hadn’t…

But, unfortunately, it seems as though the time got away from me… I must be off. I shall be back to continue my tale next week. Farewell for now. I’ll see you again soon…

Yours sincerely,

Evelyn Wane
